Thomas E. Brennan. Jr.

Thomas Edward Brennan, Jr. - Savannah

SAVANNAH - Thomas Edward Brennan, Jr. died peacefully in his home on March 6, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a friend and mentor to many.

Tom was born on October 10, 1932 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Mary Brady and Thomas Edward Brennan Sr. He attended Catholic schools in Milwaukee and graduated from Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama with a degree in English and Philosophy.

On October 6, 1956, Tom married his beloved wife, Agnes Markwalter of Augusta, Georgia. After a wonderful 2 year tour of duty in Germany, Tom and Agnes moved to Savannah where they raised their family and made many lifelong friends. Tom was the co-owner and operator of Hertz Rent-A-Car Savannah and was very grateful for his wonderful employees who helped make it a successful business. He was a hard worker but was known on occasion to play a round of golf or a hand of gin rummy.

Tom was predeceased by his wife Agnes who died November 1, 2012. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his sister and brother in law, Sally and Curt Morsell, his stepmother Katherine Brennan, and special cousin Fr, Jimmy Hoff along with numerous members of his wife's strong and loving family.

Tom is survived by his 8 children and their spouses: Mary and Liam Collins, Julie and Andrew Purkey, Tom and Jane Brennan, Sally and Brian Kennedy, Philip Brennan, Joe and Michelle Brennan, Peter and Anna Brennan, and Agnes and Pete Law. He is also survived by his 27 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all whom he loved dearly.

In addition he is survived by his sister and brother in law Libby and Dick Weinberg of Carpinteria, CA, his wife's family: Jack and Marcelene Markwalter, Mary Gambill, Jane Eubanks, and Louise Wright all of Augusta, Georgia and his many nieces and nephews. This large and loving family brought Tom great joy throughout his life.

The Brennan family would like to thank all those who have assisted Tom during these last few months of illness, especially Dr. Doug Hanzel and his caring nurse Tonja McLeod of Spanish Oaks Hospice. They would also like to thank the priests and nuns of St. James Catholic Church present and past for their kindness to Tom and his family.

The visitation will be held at St. James Catholic Church on Friday, March 8th at 4:30 followed by a Rosary at 5:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 1:00 also at St. James Catholic Church with burial to follow at the Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Social Apostolate of Savannah, 502 East Liberty St., Savannah, GA 31401.
